Air Force Museum Foundation to host after-hours Steampunk Soiree

Dayton, Ohio – November 1, 2023 — The Air Force Museum Foundation, Inc., continues the 2023 After Dark series of after-hours events Saturday, November 18, with Steampunk Soiree at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for this adults-only (21+) event, which will run from 6:00–10:00 p.m. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at afmuseum.com/events/after-dark-events, or by calling 937.751.1550.

Guests will have special access to a number of aircraft in the Museum’s collection. In the World War II gallery, the iconic Lockheed P-51 Mustang will be open for viewing, along with two of its Luftwaffe rivals: the Messerschmitt Bf 109 (also a photo op), and the rocket-powered Me-163B Komet. In the Early Years gallery, the 1930s-era Kellett K-2/K-3 autogiro (related to a helicopter) will be available for a photo op, and the reproduction Martin MB-2, the first U.S.-designed bomber (1920s) produced in large numbers, will be open for viewing.

In addition, rarely seen artifacts from the Museum’s collection specially curated for this event will be on display, including flying masks and goggles, artifacts from the first around-the-world flight, and dirigible artifacts including items related to two of the most famous U.S. rigid airships.

Attendees are encouraged to dress up in steampunk attire, try their hand at virtual welding thanks to Hobart Brothers LLC, and have their fortune told by Madame Clare Voyant. There will also be a presentation on headstone symbolism, a display of French aviation lithographs from the Wright State Archives, plus a games parlor, and trivia with prizes.

An hors d’oeuvres buffet will be provided. A selection of adult beverages will be available for purchase at cash bars.

The event is sponsored by Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP.
